Two weeks later, February 1, 1945, also in Belgium, Hamby wrote about an injury to his leg. He didn't provide details, but he did state that if it didn't soon improve he would see a doctor about it. He asked his wife not to worry. He was encouraged by the improving war news:
... "Darling the news sounds good. I believe I will be home one of these days soon. And honey it can't be too soon for me. I want to be with my angel so bad I can't hardly stand it. Keep praying and trusting in the good Lord, he will get us toghether one of these days." ...
There are similar segments elsewhere in the letters in wich Rex expresses his love for his wife and his hope that the war would soon end so that they could be together.
